FROM THE FIRST SETTLERS, THROUGH THE OLMEC, THE ENSLAVEMENT AND RESISTANCE, TO BLACK POWER
BEGINNING FRIDAY FEBRUARY 23, 2018 AT 9:00 PM SHARP, EASTERN TIME!
A NEW EIGHT WEEK COURSE BY RUNOKO RASHIDI AND ONLY $50.00 PER HOUSEHOLD!
This is Runoko Rashidi’s new online Facebook course and promises to be one of his best.
We start at the beginning, with the descendants of Africa as the first settlers of the Americas. We look at Luzia in South America and the traditions of Queen Califia in North America.
Then we look at the African presence in the Olmec world. And we go beyond the Olmec. We look for example, and speculate, on the color black in the ancient American civilizations from the Maya to other classical American high-cultures.
And then the great and tragic crime against humanity called the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and the devastation and humiliation that ensued.
But the oppression of African people has always been met with fierce resistance and we document and salute the efforts of African people to free themselves from bondage. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of African women in the freedom movements of the Americas during the days of enslavement. Many of these women you will be hearing about for the first time.
As we move into the twentieth century we devote special attention to Marcus Garvey and the Garvey movement.
From there we move through the US Civil Rights movement and examine in detail the US Black Power movement.
And, of course, we will highlight the great African Diasporan scholars who have documented the great and mighty journey.
In each session ample time is provided by questions and answers.
All proceeds from the course go towards Dr. Rashidi’s ongoing museum researches.
