Hector Peterson Memorial
On the 16th of June 1976, Hector Pieterson was shot by the police during a protest by schoolchildren about Afrikaans being imposed as the medium of instruction. The Soweto uprising, as it has come to be known, saw 20 children shot by police during what started out as a peaceful protest. One of the pivotal moments in the anti-Apartheid struggle, 12-year old Hector has come to symbolise those that stood against the tyrannical regime. Constitution Hill has been the site for South Africa’s Constitution Court since the mid-1990s but previously it was one of the country’s most notorious prisons. The tour of the facility will take in the isolation cells known as Sections Four and Five where famous political activists such as Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu were held, the Women’s Gaol that has housed Winnie Mandela and others and many other cells as well as the awaiting trial building. 1. Hallo brother Runoko

I wanna find out, on the website, i came across, dates and times, you will be touring Afrika next year 2017, how do a brother meet you for a cuppa coffee before taking another flight to Namibia?

    Ase

    • @ Joia, Dr. Runoko’s next tour to Egypt is planned for January 2018. More details will be forthcoming as available.

  2. Would you be interested to give a talk at the University of Namibia on anything you would want to share with us? I work for the University of Namibia. I teach digital geography ( such as cartography) but my main interest is African History and African Consciousness. The Department I work for is for Geography and History, so I can organize with one of our History clolleagues or colleagues from Sociology or Political Sciences so you can give a talk on anything. It might be about your vision for African youths and what you think our role should be in the so called post-apartheid Namibian era. What you would see once you come to Namibia is that we are a rich country and a bit developed but he means of production and the economy still lies in the hands of the white man because of the privilege he has had during the apartheid no Germany occupation and the few elite Namibian who are closer to the resources. How can we use our education system which has suffered so much from the Bantu education system to help the black people ensure confidence in ownership of the Namibian economy and for Namibian youths to go to school to solve the real needs of our society but not just to go to school to earn money after or work for mining multi-nationals? How do we ensure that our education system is for us and for our real needs? If you have any talk in mind, I think we can benefit from hearing from you while you are here in Windhoek shortly. Thank you so much, I appreciate you coming to Namibia and I have always been a supporter of your work. Keep doing the work my brother

  3. Nangula Nghiayalwa, a very nice suggestion. In fact, I’m surprised to see your comment because in Namibia it is very rare to find people who are truly also into African consciousness and ancient African History, Mr Runoko, I just saw you on NBC last night and was shocked you were here and we had no clue, if possible I and a few like minded individuals would like to meet you and have a discussion with you, either at Unam as Nangula suggested or anywhere esle that would be convenient, we found out too late that you were here, is it possible to schedule one last discussion in Windhoek before you leave for South Africa?

    • Greetings Veundja Tjingaete. I am Dr. Rashidi’s website administrator and presented your question to him. He says unfortunately he will only pass through Windhoek to go to the airport. I hope this answers your question.

  4. Any progress on the lecture dates if so confirmed? And Nangula Nghiyalwa I, we, some of us would like to meet you, I feel your concerns as they are already limited amongst us as whole nation, how bout we share further ideas and reason? Vtjingaete33@gmail.com

    • Greetings Veundja Tjingaete. I am Dr. Rashidi’s website administrator. I presented your question to him and he says he has two big nationally broadcast TV programs today but have no more public lectures scheduled. I hope this answers your question.
